Berry Picking Baskets

June 27, 2014 | Posted in: Blog

We planted a strawberry patch a few years ago, not realizing it would grow and spread year after year. Good thing I have plenty of scrap wood to make baskets for all the strawberries we are harvesting this season!

DSC_1019They seem to work out pretty handy and stack well too. I am really amazed at how many strawberries we pick everyday. I might even have to start freezing them. Since they are organic, they only last a few days outside the fridge. I thought it wouldn’t be a problem with 3 berry lovers in the house, but we just aren’t keeping up! I think I see strawberry sauce on my ice cream in the near future.

DSC_1017I got another shot with some store bought tomatoes since it is a bit too early to get them from my garden. These baskets will be great for when the never ending supply of cherry tomatoes come in. I am debating on whether or not to add a mineral oil finish. I kinda like the way the juices patina the wood, but it might be nice to have a little sealer to darken the grain.

DSC_1023I have stacks of these made up. Let me know if you want one!

Later,

-Kate
